So last night I decided to take come of my own advice and decided to go on a little trip to a waterfall with some friends today. Unfortunately I had something that I had to make sure to have done before tonight and since I didn't decide to go until late in the day I didn't have much time to do it. My choices were to either stay up late and finish it at night, or to wake up early and finish it in the morning, so that's what I did and it felt great. I figured I'd need about two hours to complete this project so I got out of bed early enough to have enough time to finish it before I had to leave. Luckily it didn't take that long so I was able to finish it, eat some bacon, get dressed and eat some bacon all before eight o'clock and my day is free. It feels great to be a morning person.
The good feeling that came from getting everything done in the morning did not surprise me, I've been exposed to the benefits of being a morning person my entire life since my dad is one. Although he doesn't have to, he will often go to work at seven in the morning, and when he has a lot more work to do than usual he'll chose to go into the office around four in the morning rather than staying late. It makes a lot of sense to do this, your brain is much more ready to work in the morning than it is at night and when you are working late at night all your body wants is to go to bed so you won't be nearly as productive regardless of how determined you are to get your work done, the project I did this morning only took me an hour but had I done it at night instead it is quite possible that it could have taken me two hours like I had expected. Sure it may be a bit harder to get started when you do things in the morning, but once you are up you are up, the same cannot be said for working at night where you run the risk of falling asleep at your desk.
And really the best benefit of having things done in the morning is that once you finish you have the day to do whatever you want, you don't have the work you need to do looming over you as you go throughout your day. Over the past few months I have been making an effort to eat healthier I think it may be time for me to make an effort to wake up at a healthier, more productive time as well, I already sleep with my blinds open, it is time to start rising with the sun, or even before it.
